Report on Associations Day 6th December 2014
We arrived, that's me and Bob Butterworth at the venue in Walsall at 8.30ish in the morning.
At 9.00am we went to register and received some freebies, yeah love freebies. Coffee and
danish pastries followed, yum. I then got to put a few faces to friends on Facebook, yeah.
Me and Bob got to mingle with the crowd and had a look at the trade stands.
By now it's 10.00am and we are asked to be seated and introduced to the President of the
ADINJC Neil Peek and he gave us all a warm welcome. Neil then introduced Lynne Barrie
the Chairman of the ADINJC. Lynne mentioned a new benefit to all members; from January
2015 they are offering Professional Indemnity and Public Liability insurance for £22.50 per
Adi per year.
Then at 10.30am it was time for three representatives from three different associations
around the country to give their talk about how they run their associations to show all
associations are not the same in all cases. It was interesting how other associations work in
slightly different ways.
The time was flying by and it was now time for our main man Mike Bell to give his talk on the
DLSAS. Considering Mike is no public speaker he gave it his all and produced an excellent
presentation although Mike would have preferred to be in the audience.
Coffee time again wow, muffins galore yummy, trade stands time me thinks.
Then right on time, well done Lynne it was time for David Poole from Marketing and Business
Development for Driving Schools. After an emotional introduction David, although it is not his
main talent he gave us advice on how to grow our associations. He got us to write down what
we considered would help grow an association and then gave us advice. A very interesting
presentation and it was nice to see David Poole again.
Well 1.30pm came and now it was time for lunch, lovely lunch was had by all.
The time was now 2.00pm and back to our seats, Lynne your timing of the programming is
excellent. Mac McDade the Director of Ideas4Adi's turn now, he showed us what we could do
on social media and all the free apps we could use. Great presentation from Mac.
John Farlam the director off SmartDriving Projects was next. His talk was about presentation
skills, do's and don’ts. Great presentation from John, serious with a touch of humour.
It was now a question and answer session and the meeting closed exactly on time at 3.30pm
(note to self - time keeping) coffee time again, next was the AGM, it would be rude not to
stay, so me and Bob stayed.
The AGM was done and dusted in thirty five minutes (another note to self) Overall I thought
the day was fantastic and the whole day was military timed and very well done to Lynne
Barrie for her precision timing and well done to all speakers involved and the audience for
their presence.
Derek Smith. Chairman for the Leeds Driving Instructors Association.
