DSA raised the following:
A complaint has been received from the owner of a Silver Citroen Picasso (YV51 GUF) which parks on Foundry Mill Street. The owner says his car is used repeatedly by learners to practice reverse parking and has been damaged on 2 occasions leading to the assumption it was a learner using this to practice. Please could we all avoid using this car in future and be considerate to where we practice manoeuvres. Bear in mind examiners are working under time constraints when undertaking tests and this can prove difficult to carry out manoeuvres heavily used by ADIs. Please use common sense and judgement here and if you see a test, try to give priority for manoeuvres such as reversing around a corner (and post manoeuvre analysis!) When bringing candidates for test please make sure their licences are in order including any change of address and signature as time is of the essence especially at a test centre as busy as Harehills. DSA appreciate parking for test may be difficult due to the number of parked cars in the area. Please use Kimberley Road (facing the test centre) or Clifton Grove. If this is not possible, please use Harehills Lane. Please try to avoid Clifton Avenue, especially facing Harehills Lane as this can prove a very difficult right or left emerge for the candidate to execute at the start of the test. On a similar note, please avoid parking up at the test centre (where candidates would park) at test times unless you are on test. The association also raised issues regarding problems with signage and these have been brought to the council’s attention. A query was also raised about candidates being unable to get to the test centre due to adverse weather. We will feedback at the next association meeting. |

Here are the issues discussed on 20/9/12:
If we are teaching and we encounter a driving test wanting to do the same (e.g. Left Reverse), could we please free up the space for the test as they have limited time and it may be the second or third attempt at them doing a manoeuvre.
If sitting in the back can we try to restrict our own head movements as a lot of looking around could be seen as a prompt to the pupil. They don’t expect us to sit there like statues but checking blind spots and over shoulders when manoeuvring for example could be seen as a prompt. Documents for Test. Could we ensure candidates have the necessary documents READY for test. Specific reference was made to change of addresses in that in some instances candidates are having to fill in the relevant section when the examiner is checking the licence. Although this may sound like an insignificant couple of minutes, Bernadette highlighted the demographics of Harehills compared to other test centres where many have the cars immediately outside the test centre. However, at Harehills it is necessary to cross a busy road and walk some distance to the car. One ADI raised the issue of Driving Licences where the counterpart and photocard numbers differed slightly. This is where a candidate has for example lost their paper licence and obtained a replacement but turns up with the new counterpart but the old photocard (extra digits after the licence no is 13A and the other is 14). DSA confirmed this would not be an issue for driving test but may advise the candidate of this and offer to assist where multiple cards or counterparts are produced. There would however be an issue should the individual be required to produce their licence at the Police Station. A general issue was raised about if the candidate were to strike the pavement (!! PAUL !!) would the examiner get out and check the wheel tyre for damage. If there were a substantial impact, the examiner would get out and check. Most of the issues raised were not indicative of all ADIs but there have been occurrences. |
